Teknika Design Group History
Teknika Design Group was founded in 1982 by two designers committed to building a business focused on quality materials and work. Steve and Roe had worked at previous larger companies doing kitchen and baths but they felt that Philadelphia deserved a company specializing in kitchen and baths. Teknika Design Group’s showroom started in less than 500 square feet in the 800 block of South Street. Teknika was an early dealer of Wood-Mode cabinetry, a high-quality cabinet company that has been in business since World War II. As word spread about Teknika’s expertise in kitchen and bath remodeling, the firm moved to Old City, one of the first to pioneer what would become the city’s design center. Teknika remains in Old City today though under new ownership. Amy Meade bought Teknika in 2008, during the Great Recession, but because of a loyal clientele and an avid following was able to persevere and remains today in the newest location on Race Street for the last 10 years. Marcella Huss, Teknika Design Group’s Creative Director joined the company in 2009 and remains the key designer and project manager. Maggie, the dog, joined Teknika in 2013 and remains in residence when the mood strikes. Teknika Design Group remains dedicated, to our clients, vendors, and employees, to ensure that Philadelphia has the best of kitchen and bath design, products and installation.
